• Description of Works

This project transformed a dull, uninviting, and impractical space into a vibrant and entertaining outdoor oasis. The design process involved enlarging the pathway adjacent to the patio doors to create a sunken seating area. To preserve the existing grounds around the patio and pathways, we utilised the soft red Stock bricks supported by concrete blocks on reinforced foundations. This construction incorporated all necessary drainage and waterproofing to meet retaining wall standards. The new pathway was paved with quartz white porcelain tiles.

A new lawn was also installed, which underwent soil conditioning and improvement. A new shed base was constructed, fence posts were repaired and painted, a drainage system was installed, a security lock was added to the gate, an overgrown hedge was trimmed and hedged, and a flower bed was edged with brick pavers.

A lighting scheme was designed and installed, comprising five brick lights and five up/down wall lights with concealed cabling and hardwired to an existing switch. This lighting system enables extended use of the garden into the evening hours.

Prior to our involvement, the client had installed an automated wall-mounted parasol with built-in heater and lights. All potential scenarios have been considered, and the garden is now ready to provide entertainment space for friends and family.

• Description of works

In this small project, we were employed to address a water drainage issue that the client had been experiencing for some time. While upgrading from the existing concrete footpath, which was dated and unappealing, to an elegant and cottage-like design, we removed the concrete, widened the width slightly, installed a new subbase, and laid beautiful clay pavers. Additionally, we installed a drain and adjusted the falls to accommodate.

On this project, we were commissioned to design and build a bespoke garden that balanced beauty with practicality, tailored to support our client's mobility needs, all while working within a set budget.

During the briefing, our clients expressed a love for red Robins, so we selected Photinia as a screening hedge to soften and conceal the neighbouring fence. To enhance usability, we enlarged the original patio, making it more practical for everyday use, and installed a ramp to improve access between the top-tier patio, lower patio and rear entrance.

Additional works include the installation of a new shed, secure gate, and lock, as well as painting the opposite fence line and adding screening to the rear of the garden for further privacy. We installed a new washing line and lighting. We created new planting beds, laid artificial lawn to provide a low-maintenance solution, and finished the main patio in porcelain paving, chosen for both its durability and reduced maintenance.

On this driveway renovation project, we retained the existing layout while upgrading the border, replacing the rotted timber sleepers with natural stone setts. The existing railings were adapted by removing the gates and all evidence of their fittings, creating a cleaner, more refined finish.

We introduced a new planting bed, conditioned the soil before establishing a hedge behind the railings to add greenery and soften the frontage, the original small stone gravel was completely removed and replaced with a 20mm stone gravel, chosen to reduce migration into the house and road. To further prevent movement of the gravel, we installed a rumble mat at the entrance.

The 'Conversation in Bloom' garden by @new.house.home really caught our eye.

We were thrilled to speak with Charlotte and learn about her use of granite from @caradonstone, which brought a unique and personal story to the garden.

It felt peaceful, comforting and inviting.

This project involved upgrading the existing patio with new paving tiles, increasing its size, and constructing a base for a hot tub.
